For CSIPhoenix®, and CSIDefender® Copper Silver Ionization Systems
Issued: November 19, 2018,
Updated: January 20, 2025
No CSI system may be started until the installation inspection and commissioning protocol described below has been completed and validated by ProCare Water Treatment Inc. or a certified CSI vendor. Unauthorized start-up transfers operational responsibility to the party performing or authorizing the start-up.
This protocol forms part of the official operating requirements for CSIPhoenix® and CSIDefender® systems. Failure to follow these procedures may result in improper system operation, equipment damage, and loss of warranty eligibility.
STEP 1 – Installation Inspection
Before any CSI system can be started, the installation must be inspected and verified.
The inspection confirms that the system has been installed according to manufacturer requirements.
The inspection report must be completed by the installing contractor or a certified CSI vendor and submitted to ProCare Water Treatment Inc. for acceptance.
STEP 2 – Start-Up and Calibration
Start-up and calibration establish the operating parameters for the CSI system.
CSI systems must be commissioned according to the manufacturer commissioning protocol.
Installation inspection and manufacturer validation are required prior to system start-up.
Official commissioning documentation is issued directly by the manufacturer upon request.
Request the official Step-1
Inspection Report before proceeding.
Include:
- Site name
- CSI model number
- Number of units installed
The CSI vendor or manufacturer will provide the official inspection report and instructions.
Before scheduling Step-2
(system start-up and calibration)
you must request, complete and return the Step-1 Inspection Report.
The CSI vendor or manufacturer will provide the official commissioning instructions.
Inspection Documentation
The completed inspection report and installation photographs must be submitted to the manufacturer for review and to validate warranty.
Startup and calibration cannot proceed until the inspection report has been validated by the manufacturer and the building is operating under normal occupancy and domestic hot water demand conditions.
Full facility occupancy is required to properly calibrate the system. For complete commissioning procedures, refer to the project submittal documents and the Operations and Maintenance Manual.
System Operating Conditions
Commissioning must be performed while the system is operating under normal building demand conditions, including full facility occupancy or normal domestic hot water usage depending on the application.
This allows the system to be calibrated based on normal water usage patterns.
Commissioning Instructions
Detailed commissioning instructions, calibration procedures, and testing requirements will be provided by the manufacturer once the inspection report has been requested.

Unauthorized System Start-Up: Any CSI system started before completion of Step 1 (Installation Inspection) and Step 2 (Start-Up and Calibration) is considered an unauthorized start-up. The party performing or authorizing the start-up assumes responsibility for system operation and any resulting conditions. Systems started without manufacturer-validated inspection and start-up reports will be considered not properly commissioned, and warranty eligibility may be affected.
Operational Requirements: Proper system operation requires compliance with the project submittal documents and the Operations and Maintenance Manual, including routine water testing, maintenance, and recording operational results in the Portal-Hub.com system.
